Jose Mourinho has given a harsh evaluation of Portugal following their goalless draw with Mexico.

The former manager was critical after the 0-0 result last Saturday, questioning the team’s performance without Cristiano Ronaldo, who is sidelined due to a hamstring injury.

Portugal had difficulty creating opportunities, managing only 10 shots despite having some possession.

Mourinho was not impressed by their display.

Mourinho’s remarks were straightforward.

As reported by GOAL, he stated: “Remove Cristiano Ronaldo, and Portugal looks like any average team.

“People say we shouldn’t call him up. Well, he didn’t play today and you saw the outcome. There was no threat or fear from the other side. Just a team pressured by Mexico.”

He added, “With Ronaldo on the field, the opposition thinks twice. Without him, they don’t think at all.”

His comments highlight the influence Ronaldo still has.

The lack of scoring against Mexico seems to support this point.

However, it’s essential to note that key players were missing, including Diogo Costa, Rafael Leao, Bernardo Silva, and Ruben Dias.

Roberto Martinez also made changes to the squad, leaving Joao Neves and Vitinha on the bench.

Portugal’s talent indicates potential without Cristiano Ronaldo

Despite the criticism, Portugal has one of their strongest squads ever.

Bruno Fernandes is performing well at Manchester United, while Vitinha and Joao Neves have become elite midfielders at PSG.

Bernardo Silva leads Manchester City, and Nuno Mendes is recognized as one of the best left-backs globally.

With these players and others, Portugal has the depth to succeed even without Ronaldo.

The focus now is on converting that talent into consistent results.
