About the Tournament

MTN8 is a South African football cup competition that began in 1972. It features the top eight teams from the league standings. Since 2002, the event has been named after its title sponsor.

Kaizer Chiefs holds the record for the most titles in tournament history, boasting 15 championships, though they are not competing this season.

Orlando Pirates are the current champions, having won the last three MTN8 titles, bringing their total to 13.

Tournament Format

The tournament includes eight teams, starting from the quarterfinals, moving through the semifinals, and culminating in the final. The semifinals are unique as they are played over two legs; all other matches are single elimination.

The matchups are based on league standings, with the first-place team playing the eighth, the second facing the seventh, the third against the sixth, and the fourth meeting the fifth.
