Thomas Müller had an impressive night in Canada, scoring his first hat-trick for Vancouver Whitecaps in a 7-0 victory over Philadelphia Union at BC Place Stadium. The German player celebrated his 37th birthday with three goals and played a key role in his team’s largest win in MLS history.
The match started with early goals from Mathías Laborda and Emmanuel Sabbi before Müller scored from the penalty spot at the half-hour mark. He added another penalty just before halftime, thrilling the home crowd. In the second half, he assisted Sabbi for another goal.
Rayan Elloumi scored the sixth goal, and with two minutes left, Müller completed his hat-trick with a strong header from a Giuseppe Bovalina cross. This was his first MLS goal from open play, marking a memorable night for the club and its new number 13.
The decisive win secured a playoff spot for the Whitecaps, bringing them to 52 points and third place in the Western Conference. For Müller, it was a celebration of both his birthday and a significant achievement. Next, Jesper Sørensen’s team will take on Forge FC in the Canadian Championship semifinal second leg on September 16.
