Newcastle have finally found their new goalkeeper. After missing out on James Trafford, who returned to Manchester City, the Magpies have agreed a loan deal with Southampton for Aaron Ramsdale. According to Sky Sports, the 27-year-old English goalkeeper has signed a one-year loan, with an option to buy next summer. The former Arsenal goalkeeper will undergo his medical on Wednesday 30 July, the final step before the deal is made official.
This is a rather unexpected comeback for Ramsdale, who was loaned to Southampton last season after losing confidence in North London. He arrives at Newcastle with the ambition of establishing himself at a club that will compete in Europe and is aiming for a top-five Premier League finish. Ramsdale has been an England international since 2021 and will be aiming for a place in the squad for the fast-approaching 2026 World Cup. To achieve this, he will need to play regularly for his club.
