Defending champions Newcastle United have advanced to the League Cup quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at their home ground. Fabian Schär put Newcastle ahead in the 24th minute of the first half, scoring with a header from a Sandro Tonali cross. Nick Woltemade then sealed the victory just five minutes into the second half. The German forward also scored with a header, converting a cross from Joe Willock.
