Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has explained the situation regarding striker Alexander Isak’s transfer.

Isak has been rumoured to be leaving the Magpies after receiving an offer from Liverpool during the summer transfer window.

However, Newcastle United immediately rejected Liverpool’s offer to sign the Swedish national team striker.

“I was told there was an offer yesterday, but it was rejected before I even heard about it. There are people in England dealing with this situation,” Howe said on the club’s official website on Saturday.

The English coach admitted that he did not yet know whether Isak would stay at Newcastle United.

However, Howe hopes that the 25-year-old former Real Sociedad striker will stay at St James’ Park, Newcastle’s home ground, as he is much needed by the team.

“I don’t really know what’s going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way. My hope remains that we will see him in a Newcastle United shirt again,” said Howe.

Isak had previously been keen to leave Newcastle United. The striker, who joined in the 2022 season, initially rejected an offer from the Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.

The number 14 striker would prefer a move to Anfield and continues to attract Liverpool’s attention in the hope that his transfer saga with Newcastle will be resolved quickly.
