Newcastle United faces Burnley tonight in their final Premier League match of 2025.

The team is aiming to bounce back after a 1-0 loss to Manchester United on Boxing Day, which continued their struggles away from home this season. Newcastle has won only one of their nine away games in 2025-26.

Manager Eddie Howe hopes to find better luck against Burnley, who are fighting to avoid relegation and currently sit 19th in the standings under former Newcastle player Scott Parker.

Newcastle United team news

Howe is facing challenges with a limited defensive lineup. Dan Burn, Sven Botman, Kieran Trippier, Tino Livramento, Emil Krafth, and Jamaal Lascelles are all unavailable for the match at Turf Moor.

In light of these injuries, Lewis Miley has shown promise stepping in at right-back and is expected to play again, joining Fabian Schar, Malick Thiaw, and Lewis Hall in defense.

Up front, Anthony Elanga missed the game against Manchester United due to a knee problem and will be assessed before the match against Burnley.

Howe is also considering whether to start Joelinton, who has recently returned from injury. The manager spoke highly of summer signing Jacob Ramsey, who has filled in for Joelinton during his absence.

“I think he’s just returning to his very best levels,” Howe mentioned earlier this month. “I think the next step for him is to start impacting in the final third with goals and assists.”
