The updated FIFA Intercontinental Cup started on September 14. In Cairo, the champions of the CAF Champions League played against the winners of the OFC Champions League, with Pyramids taking on Auckland City from New Zealand.

El-Karti scored the first goal in the 14th minute, and Marwan Hamdy added a second for the Egyptians in the second half. New player Mostafa Ziko scored just before the match ended, sealing a solid win for Krunoslav Jurčić’s team and moving them forward in the tournament.

The team will next play on September 23 in Jeddah against Al-Ahli, the AFC Champions League champions. The winner of this mini-tournament among teams from Africa, Asia, and Oceania will advance to the third round.

In this round, they will face Mexico’s Cruz Azul (the CONCACAF Champions League winners) and the Copa Libertadores champions, who will be determined on November 29. The winner here will go to the final and, on December 17, face PSG, the champions of the UEFA Champions League.

Currently, Real Madrid holds the Intercontinental Cup title, having defeated Pachuca from Mexico 3-0 on December 18 last year.
