Nico Schlotterbeck celebrated his 26th birthday on Monday amidst a challenging contract situation at Borussia Dortmund. According to Bild, the club has been trying for several months to extend the left-footed central defender’s contract without success. A renewal beyond 2027 now seems unlikely. Dortmund has proposed a new deal that would increase his salary from €2.5 million to €8 million, including bonuses, but negotiations are at a standstill. Schlotterbeck is eager to join a team that offers the chance to compete for major titles at this crucial point in his career.

Bayern Munich, which attempted to sign him in 2022 before his move from Freiburg to Dortmund, is monitoring the situation and may take action if Dayot Upamecano does not extend his contract. However, Dortmund would prefer not to see him join their Bavarian rivals. FC Barcelona is also being considered as a serious option, backed by Deco and Hansi Flick, who value his profile to strengthen the Catalan defense and reposition Pau Cubarsí to his natural side. The German international could leave Dortmund as early as 2026 to avoid a free transfer in 2027. The club values him at around €45 million, although this price is negotiable. According to his representatives, Schlotterbeck is open to a project abroad, whether in La Liga or the Premier League, if an attractive offer comes. Sport further notes that Flick is seeking an experienced profile for this defensive position, and while Barcelona is also following Gonçalo Inácio, the German is seen as a better fit due to his characteristics, maturity, and international experience.
