Antoine Griezmann shared his thoughts on the ongoing debate about the greatest player in football history, and his choice was unexpected. While most discussions focus on players like Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo, or Pele, Griezmann believes none of them are the greatest.

During an interview with Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos, alongside his Atletico Madrid teammate Julian Alvarez, Griezmann revealed his top five all-time players, placing fellow Frenchman Zinedine Zidane at number one.

Griezmann was just seven years old when Zidane helped France win their first World Cup in 1998, scoring two goals in the final against Brazil, a team filled with stars like Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos.

Notably, Griezmann ranked Lionel Messi second on his list but omitted Cristiano Ronaldo despite facing him many times during his career.

His top five also included Diego Maradona in third, Johan Cruyff in fourth, and David Beckham in fifth, which surprised many given Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence.

Julian Alvarez’s picks

Argentina’s Julian Alvarez, who plays alongside Griezmann at Atletico Madrid, confidently declared Lionel Messi as the greatest player of all time. His top five also featured two other Argentine legends: Diego Maradona in second and Alfredo Di Stefano in third.

He rounded out his list with Brazilian World Cup champion Ronaldo Nazario and included Cristiano Ronaldo in fifth place, unlike Griezmann.
