Not offered new contract, Muller reported to leave Bayern Munich

Thomas Muller is reportedly set to part company with Bayern Munich at the end of the season after the German giants failed to renew his contract.

“Muller wants to continue playing for the club, but Bayern have indicated that they will not offer him a new contract,” Fabrizio Romano was quoted as saying by BILD on Monday (31 March).

Muller has fallen out of favour with the Bavarians since the arrival of new coach Vincent Kompany and has been used more as a substitute.

The 35-year-old has started just nine of his 23 Bundesliga appearances this season.

In the Champions League, Muller has started just 3 of 10 games. Despite no longer being a mainstay, he is still one of the highest paid players in the squad.

His high salary is one of the reasons why Bayern have no intention of offering Muller a new contract.

During last week’s international break, Bayern Munich’s management reportedly held two meetings with Muller to discuss the player’s future.

Thomas Muller has been with Bayern Munich since 2008 and has made a total of 742 appearances in all competitions.

Muller has won 12 Bundesliga titles, 6 DFB-Pokal titles and 2 Champions League trophies with the German giants. On the international stage, he led Germany to victory at the 2014 World Cup.
