Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace qualified for the FA Cup semifinals after defeating their opponents from Saturday (29/3) night to Sunday morning IST.
As reported by Antara , Forest secured a top-four spot after winning 4-3 on penalties over Brighton & Hove Albion at Falmer Stadium. The Forest vs Brighton match was a goalless draw until normal time and extra time ended, so it had to be decided by a penalty shootout.
Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels was the hero with two crucial saves, denying Jack Hinshelwood from the bottom corner and Diego Gomez from the centre of the goal.
Forest continued to have the upper hand after Neco Williams’ shot went over the crossbar. Forest’s final penalty was Ryan Yates who sealed his side’s place in the semi-finals when his penalty beat the visiting goalkeeper to make it 4-3.
Elsewhere, Palace impressed with a 3-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, with Eberechi Eze key to Palace’s win with a goal and an assist.
Eze opened the scoring for Palace in the 34th minute with a shot that left the home fans stunned. Four minutes later, his cross from the left wing was headed home by Ismaila Sarr to double Palace’s lead.
Palace added a third through substitute Eddie Nketiah, whose 75th-minute strike sealed the win.
The other two quarter-final ties will be played on Sunday (30/3) at 6.00 pm IST. The only second division club, Preston North End will host Aston Villa, who are seven-time FA Cup winners at Deepdale.
Meanwhile, defending champions Manchester City, who have won the trophy seven times, will be hosted by Bournemouth on Sunday (30/3) at 9.00 pm IST.
