Inter Miami aims to shift focus as they face New York City FC this Sunday in the Bronx, New York. Both teams are strong contenders in the Eastern Conference.

Inter Miami (2-1-1, 7 points) is looking to move on from their recent disappointment after being knocked out of the CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16. This occurred after two draws against Nashville.

The 1-1 draw on Wednesday night allowed Nashville to advance, thanks to an away goals tiebreaker.

NYCFC (3-0-1, 10 points) enters the match on a high note, having won their last three games and remaining unbeaten. They most recently won 3-1 against Colorado, looking to avenge their 5-1 loss to Inter Miami in the conference championship last November.

Nicolas Fernandez has been instrumental for NYCFC, scoring two goals in the Colorado match and a total of four goals this season, the most in the conference.

“We don’t have to worry about [Fernandez],” NYCFC coach Pascal Jansen stated. “Nico is a fantastic and intelligent player who adds energy and passion to the team.”

Inter Miami has shown improvement defensively, allowing only two goals in their last four and a half matches. However, they want to activate their superstar Messi, who scored his 900th career goal against Nashville but has seen limited offensive contributions from the team recently.

“The disappointment from being knocked out should drive us,” said Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano. “We need that energy to play our game.”
