Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard may return from injury after the international break.
The midfielder has been recovering from a knee injury he sustained during the 1-1 draw with Brentford on February 12. While he played in the match against Tottenham Hotspur three days later, he has been out since then.
Odegaard is not part of Norway’s squad for friendlies against the Netherlands or Switzerland in March, but national team manager Stale Solbakken believes the 27-year-old could be back for Arsenal’s next game. The Gunners will face Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals on April 4.
Odegaard nearing a comeback from injury
“It’s about three weeks until Arsenal play again. Or two and a half weeks,” Solbakken said from Norway’s camp.
“I think it’s possible for Martin to be in the squad then. It’s achievable.
“There’s no reason for him to travel now. He needs to focus on training. He can come here if he wants to use a day off, but it’s not planned.”
Solbakken mentioned that Odegaard feels “very frustrated and grumpy” about his injury issues this season, which have limited him to just 13 starts in the Premier League.
“He hasn’t played since we beat Moldova 11-1 in September,” he said. “That was his last international appearance.
“He missed the games against Israel, Estonia, and Italy. It’s clear that it’s difficult for him.”
