Has the relationship between OGC Nice players and some supporters completely broken down? The incidents involving Terem Moffi, Jérémie Boga, Jonathan Clauss, and Florian Maurice following the defeat in Lorient have left significant marks. The two offensive players are currently on temporary work interruptions. Coach Franck Haise chose to stay despite the situation he condemned, after some hesitation. Complaints have been lodged by the players and the club, as tensions rise amidst a series of disappointing results. The team is very upset about the events and issued a statement, supported by the club, condemning “attempts to downplay or distort the facts by individuals and groups who did not witness the incident and lack any reliable evidence or images of the events.”

Contrary to what has been suggested, several of our players and staff were direct victims of physical (numerous spitting and hitting) and verbal assaults. Florian Maurice, Terem Moffi, Jérémie Boga, and Jonathan Clauss were particularly targeted in unacceptable conditions. Two of them are still suffering from physical and psychological effects, which prevent them from returning to competition safely,” the Nice statement continued. “A large number of hooded individuals, clearly identified as prohibited in public spaces under current legislation, were present. Despite this, the police did not intervene appropriately given the seriousness of the situation. OGC Nice players strongly condemn the failures in the organization and management of security measures. Considering the context, the number of supporters present, and their manifest hostility, the measures in place were grossly inadequate to ensure the safety of players, staff, and all involved in the match.” The club urged for a thorough investigation to clarify responsibilities so that such incidents do not recur. The players also expressed disappointment regarding the inadequate recognition of the situation’s seriousness and the lack of moral support offered to the injured players, both personally and publicly. The entire squad emphasizes their unwavering support for Jérémie, Terem, Jonathan, and Florian Maurice during this difficult time, assuring them that the whole team stands united behind them.”
