L’OM Responds to the Tragic Murder of Mehdi Kessaci

The recent murder of Mehdi Kessaci has cast a shadow over Marseille. The younger brother of political activist Amine Kessaci was shot by two men on a motorcycle in broad daylight, an act deemed likely to be a “crime of intimidation” by Interior Minister Laurent Nunez. Investigators are exploring links to a senior figure in the DZ Mafia who may have a personal vendetta against the Kessaci family. The incident has sparked strong emotions in the city, resonating even with players from Olympique de Marseille. “I don’t have a message to convey because this is a matter that deserves respect for the families involved. I am affected, as I remain human, and this happens in a city we all live in. It’s a sensitive issue. There are platforms to discuss this, and we are all impacted by such events,” stated Geoffrey Kondogbia during a press conference, sentiments echoed shortly after by coach Roberto De Zerbi.

“I hear everything, I was aware. It saddens me because these are things that shouldn’t happen. I come from a city that has seen similar events, and it leaves you speechless. We know the social problems that exist in Marseille. Through our performances, we understand that the people of Marseille identify with the club, and we try to provide them with satisfaction that goes beyond just football. Here, football means something different; it lasts throughout the week. Whether good or bad, controversies are part of this passion. There are also other issues, and we strive to do our job as best as we can.”
