Fernando Ortiz has been introduced as Colo Colo’s new head coach. He met with reporters and cameras personally before his press conference, showing a friendly approach as he starts his role with Chile’s top club.
Ortiz aims to bring back Colo Colo’s competitive spirit. He stated, “I will continue to enjoy my job and strive to elevate Colo Colo to the highest level.” He also congratulated his players on their recent clásico win and encouraged them to replicate that success in the upcoming Supercopa against Universidad de Chile.
The coach recognized the significance of beginning his journey with such an important match. He said, “I want to congratulate them for the clásico. From tomorrow, I will tell them we need to achieve the same result as Sunday. My focus is only on that.” He emphasized the importance of winning against rivals.
When asked about his approach, he was straightforward: “Clásicos must be won. The way you play doesn’t matter; it’s about securing a win.” He mentioned he will take things step by step, getting to know his team as the final approaches.
Ortiz’s first match will be on September 14 in the Supercopa, facing Universidad de Chile. This game will not only decide the champion but also act as an early test for a coach who takes the role with significant expectations and immediate challenges.
