Oxford United is having a tough season in the Championship, currently sitting near the bottom of the table.

With 19 points, they are in 22nd place, just two points from safety, and they still have half the season left to turn things around.

However, changes are necessary for them to improve.

This week, Oxford has officially parted ways with manager Gary Rowett, marking the end of his year at the club.

While assistant manager Mark Sale steps in as interim manager, the club is looking for a new head coach, targeting a former Manchester United player.

According to Alex Crook, Oxford United is considering John O’Shea for the position.

O’Shea is well-known for his time at Manchester United, where he played from 1998 to 2011, making 394 appearances.

During his time there, he scored 15 goals and provided 23 assists, winning five Premier League titles, a Champions League title, the FIFA Club World Cup, and seven domestic cups.

In 2011, he moved to Sunderland for seven years before finishing his career at Reading.

After retiring, the former Republic of Ireland international took on the assistant manager role at Reading, later moving to Stoke City, Birmingham, and the Republic of Ireland national team.

If John O’Shea becomes Oxford United’s manager, it will be his first permanent head coaching role, aside from a five-month interim stint with the Republic of Ireland.
