Bayer Leverkusen announced that Exequiel Palacios had surgery on Monday following a torn tendon in his right adductor muscle. This injury occurred during a Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt and sidelined the Argentine midfielder after just 15 minutes on the field. The club confirmed that the surgery was successful and that Palacios will start a lengthy recovery process, which is expected to keep him out until 2026.
The 26-year-old took to social media following the operation to thank fans for their support and to share his optimism. “The best is yet to come, always moving forward,” he posted. Argentine FA president Claudio Tapia also reached out with words of encouragement, promising that the national team is with him during this tough time.
Palacios’s absence is a significant loss for Leverkusen, as he will miss the rest of the Bundesliga season, the Champions League, and the German Cup. This news also impacts the Argentine national team, as he will not participate in the upcoming friendlies in October and November. Nonetheless, Lionel Scaloni’s coaching team remains hopeful that he can recover in time for the 2026 World Cup.
A World Cup winner in Qatar and a vital presence in Argentina’s midfield, Palacios now faces a major challenge: overcoming this serious injury and returning to top-level competition in Europe, with the aim of being ready for the world’s biggest tournament.
