Brazilian media reports confirm that Martín Palermo has been officially named the new head coach of Fortaleza. He takes over at a challenging time, with the team currently in 19th place in Serie A, having secured only 15 points. Palermo is the club’s third coach this season after Renato Paiva and Juan Pablo Vojvoda were let go.
Palermo shared that discussions with Vojvoda, his predecessor, influenced his decision to join. “I like challenges. I came here after talking a lot with Juan Pablo Vojvoda. He made a significant impact at this club, which has seen considerable growth. It feels like a family club, and that motivated me to accept the role,” he remarked.
He also expressed hope for the future. “I believe we can improve our current situation with the players we have. I’ve seen the facilities, and we’re equipped to succeed. We also met with the fans, who will support us in the next match. I’m glad to be here,” Palermo stated.
Regarding his tactical approach, he highlighted the importance of defensive stability. “My focus is on ensuring teams start with a strong defense. We need to regain our defensive solidity, which is crucial for building a successful strategy,” he added.
Palermo’s first game in charge will be on Saturday, September 13, when Fortaleza faces Vitória at Arena Castelão. This match is crucial as they fight to avoid relegation.
