Paul Pogba has made progress in his journey back to form by scoring a goal after a tough time away from the game.
The former Manchester United player faced many challenges since moving to AS Monaco last summer, mainly due to injuries that disrupted his play.
A knee tendon injury late last year further impacted his ability to perform.
Before that, Pogba’s return to football was already inconsistent.
After coming back from another injury in November 2025, he found it hard to get regular playing time.
Given this background, his latest goal is especially meaningful.
AS Monaco confirmed the goal on their official X account, marking his first in four years.
The goal occurred in a closed-door friendly against Brentford’s Under-23 team, which is part of Pogba’s steps to regain fitness.
Though the match was low-key, the goal reminded everyone of his skills, scored from distance in his classic style.
Pogba’s future at AS Monaco remains unclear.
Earlier this year, CEO Thiago Scuro mentioned that talks about his long-term future would happen after the season.
Interest from other clubs has also existed.
In February 2026, it was reported that Paris Saint-Germain, the current UEFA Champions League holders, had looked into signing Pogba, showing his standing in European football.
During this time, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner openly discussed his struggles, admitting he faced “mental” challenges while away from the sport.
While this goal may not have competitive significance, it marks an important step in his difficult path back.
