The former Manchester United midfielder identified three managers he finds interesting, including Unai Emery and Andoni Iraola.

However, he specifically named England manager Thomas Tuchel as his first choice.

Scholes believes Tuchel has the necessary experience and composure to handle the pressures of managing United.

“Number one for me which I’d do in the summer is Thomas Tuchel, all day long,” he stated.

“I think Tuchel would bring out the best in the team.

“His contract with England runs only until the summer.

“He can be temperamental and challenging to manage, but he has succeeded at major clubs.

“He’s improved England’s performance. They look much stronger under him,” Scholes concluded.

The timing is a concern, with the World Cup set to finish on July 19.

If England progresses far in the tournament, Tuchel may have limited time to prepare for the upcoming club season.

Scholes highlights a potential concern

While Scholes supports the idea of Tuchel as Manchester United manager, he has some reservations about his playing style.

“His approach is heavily possession-based, similar to Man City. That’s my main concern,” he added.

Tuchel’s name has previously been linked to Manchester United, even during the Ineos discussions.

In the summer of 2024, Sir Jim Ratcliffe spoke with him regarding Erik ten Hag’s position, but no decision was made then.

Now fully committed to his role with England leading to the 2026 World Cup, it remains uncertain if the timing will suit a return to club football.
