Dailysports highlights the standout players from matchweek five in the South African Betway Premiership.

Goalkeeper: Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United)

It’s rare for a goalkeeper from a losing team to make this list, but Nwabali’s saves prevented an even worse outcome for Chippa United against Orlando Pirates. He made five crucial saves and successfully managed a penalty kick, proving his value to the team.

After limited play last season, Cupido has secured a starting spot this season. He excelled in clearances and interceptions against Stellenbosch, garnering positive reviews for his performance.

Chabatsane has become a key player early this season. His defensive skills were on display against Polokwane, where he accumulated six clearances and effectively initiated attacks with long passes.

Kaizer Chiefs continued their strong run with Mako playing a key role. He had a solid defensive showing against Golden Arrows, with five interceptions and seven tackles, maintaining the team’s unbeaten streak in five matches.

Central Midfielder: Sphesihle Maduna (TS Galaxy)

Maduna put in an outstanding performance against Orbit College, contributing an assist and a goal. He was involved in winning aerial duels and also played an important defensive role.

Central Midfielder: Patrick Maswanganyi (Orlando Pirates)

Maswanganyi made an impact against Chippa United by scoring early and playing a crucial role in the team’s third consecutive win, despite missing a penalty later on.

Mahlambi made the team of the week again after scoring and assisting against Orbit College. He currently leads the scoring charts alongside his teammate.

Right Winger: Bradley Grobler (Sekhukhune)

Centre Forward: Peter Shalulile (Mamelodi Sundowns)

Despite transfer rumors, Shalulile remains with his team and continues to score when given opportunities. He netted the decisive penalty against Stellenbosch and is now the league’s all-time leading scorer.

Head Coach: Abdeslam Ouaddou (Orlando Pirates)

After facing challenges early in the season, Ouaddou has led his team to three straight wins and aims for a fourth consecutive MTN8 Cup title, with a final against Stellenbosch set for September 13.
