Hugo Ekitike describes playing with Mo Salah as a “blessing,” calling him a “great professional” and an inspiration for the Liverpool team. Salah returned to the lineup as the Reds secured a 2-0 victory against Brighton at Anfield.

Ekitike scored the quickest goal of the Premier League season just 51 seconds into the match.

Salah came on in the 26th minute after Joe Gomez’s injury and assisted Ekitike’s second goal during his first game since expressing frustration about being benched in recent matches.

He shared with BBC Match of the Day: “We had a good Champions League game. The last Premier League match against Leeds was tough. Returning home with a draw was disappointing, so winning today was crucial to regain momentum. I feel good about our performance.”

“I really enjoy my time here. I have amazing teammates, supportive staff, and dedicated fans. They give me so much encouragement, so I aim to repay that trust by scoring and contributing to wins.”

“I focus on my role, whether I play with Flo [Wirtz] or Alex [Isak]. My goal is to support them as best as I can.”

Ekitike praised Salah, who was back in the squad after missing the previous match against Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League.

The Egyptian winger previously expressed his frustrations over being benched for three consecutive matches and felt unfairly blamed for the team’s struggles, hinting at a breakdown in his relationship with the manager.

While his teammates traveled to face Inter Milan, Salah trained separately but was reinstated to the squad for Brighton after discussions with the coaching staff.

“Mohamed is a fantastic professional,” Ekitike noted. “I see him as a role model due to his contributions in goals and assists. He’s a legend here, and playing alongside him is a privilege.”
