Pochettino Confirms World Cup Opportunities Still Available for Zendejas and Roldan in USMNT

Mauricio Pochettino is at a crucial point as head coach of the United States. According to Diario AS, with only nine months remaining until the 2026 World Cup, the Argentine manager stated that no player has a guaranteed spot on the roster. Open slots are available, including for Alejandro Zendejas and Cristian Roldan, who are both called up unexpectedly this time.

Before the friendly match against South Korea, Pochettino explained that Zendejas had missed previous matches due to scheduling conflicts, not doubts about his talent. “He’s a valuable player for us. He can play in various positions, connects well, and as nothing is set in stone, everyone has the opportunity to make the World Cup team—including Alejandro,” he said.

Pochettino also commended Roldan, a Leagues Cup champion with the Seattle Sounders, who joined the team after a last-minute decision. “We’ve been monitoring him for months and saw an opening based on his skills. Seattle helped facilitate his release, and we appreciate that. He was ready from day one, and now we can see how he fits with new teammates and adds his talents to the group,” Pochettino noted.
