Police in Catalonia have identified potential financial irregularities related to FC Barcelona‘s player transfers during the presidency of Josep Bartomeu. The signing of Brazilian player Malcom is a key part of the investigation.

According to sources, a Barcelona court is currently investigating possible tax evasion in transactions that took place between 2018 and 2020. One of the deals under scrutiny is the signing of Malcom in July 2018.

The police discovered that changes were made to the employment contract between the club and the Brazilian player after it was signed. The initial agreement specified an income tax withholding of about 50%, but a lower amount was ultimately paid to the tax authorities.
