Manchester United is actively exploring the transfer market to enhance their recruitment efforts.

The club aims to sign a new midfielder or two in 2026 as part of their squad reconstruction.

Key targets for this summer include Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace, and Carlos Baleba from Brighton.

Additionally, they are considering options like Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and Joao Gomes from Wolves for a potential January transfer.

Another name has surfaced on their radar, linked to Bruno Fernandes’ teammate.

The Times reports that United is “on alert” for Ruben Neves, who aims to return to the Premier League.

The former Wolves midfielder moved to Al-Hilal in 2023 after spending six years at Molineux but has turned down a new contract there as he seeks a return to England.

United is monitoring the 28-year-old, alongside Newcastle United, both clubs in search of midfield reinforcements, especially those with Premier League experience.

Despite this, Neves is two years older than the preferred age for new recruits at Old Trafford, where the focus is on acquiring younger players who can deliver immediate results and grow with the team.

It remains unclear how committed United is to pursuing Neves or if they are simply keeping him as a potential option. However, with uncertainty surrounding Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo’s futures, the club needs to consider alternatives.
