Ruben Amorim has become the sixth permanent manager of Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
The Portuguese manager was hired after his success at Sporting CP, where he won the Liga Portugal for the first time in 19 years.
However, his tenure at Old Trafford was less successful, with a win rate of just 36%, one of the lowest since Ferguson’s era.
Following his dismissal, reports from Portugal highlight the end of his 14-month period at Manchester United.
O Jogo discusses how Amorim’s appointment turned from a “dream to a nightmare,” noting that he had the lowest approval rating for a manager since Ferguson.
He managed 24 wins, of which 15 were in Premier League matches, against 19 losses and 13 draws.
According to the report, the longest winning streak during his time was just three games, occurring at the start of 2025, including two wins in the Europa League and one in the Premier League.
His average of 1.23 points per game is the lowest among all Manchester United managers in the Premier League era, just below Ralf Rangnick.
A Bola commented on the inconsistencies during Amorim’s time, saying, “For every strength the team showed, there was another negative aspect.”
They also noted the team’s mixed results, highlighting that after a win against a tough opponent like Newcastle, they struggled to perform against lower-ranked teams like Wolverhampton and Leeds.
It’s clear the reports are critical of Amorim, especially as the team never managed to achieve four consecutive wins, with their best streak being three wins.
