Prediction: Sunderland Aims for Second Win as The Bees Prepare for Tough Challenge

Footem.inSunderland aims for a second consecutive home victory in the Premier League when they face Brentford at the Stadium of Light this Saturday, August 30, at 21:00 WIB. Brentford comes into this match in good form after recent successes in the Premier League and EFL Cup.

Sunderland’s Focus and Brentford’s Rhythm

Following their 3-0 victory over West Ham in the opening match, Sunderland faced two consecutive losses. They fell 0-2 to fellow promoted team Burnley, thanks to goals from Jaidon Anthony and Josh Cullen. Later, they were eliminated by Huddersfield Town in the EFL Cup after a penalty shootout, despite Marc Guiu equalizing during regular time.

This setback might actually be a hidden blessing, allowing Regis Le Bris’s squad to concentrate fully on the Premier League.

Should Sunderland triumph over Brentford, it would mark their first two home wins in a single Premier League season since Peter Reid’s era in 2001/02.

On the other side, Brentford is beginning to find their rhythm. After losing their opener, The Bees secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Aston Villa with a debut goal from Dango Ouattara, followed by a 2-0 win over Bournemouth in the EFL Cup thanks to goals from Fabio Carvalho and Igor Thiago.

Their away record is also impressive, amassing 23 points throughout 2025, the highest in the Premier League this calendar year.

Brentford has excelled against promoted teams, boasting eight consecutive wins with 28 goals scored while conceding just six. They also remain unbeaten in their last five meetings with Sunderland, the most recent clash occurring in 2018.

Current Team Condition

Sunderland is currently dealing with injury issues. Daniel Ballard is out with a groin injury until after the international break in September. He joins Aji Alese, Dennis Cirkin, Luke O’Nien, Leo Fuhr Hjelde, and Romain Mundle in the treatment room. Niall Huggins is also a doubt for the match.

New defender Nordi Mukiele is likely to make his Premier League debut, with Jenson Seelt being a key player in defense.

Brentford also faces challenges, as Frank Onyeka was substituted in the Bournemouth match, while Vitaly Janelt, Gustavo Nunes, Paris Maghoma, and Yunus Konak are battling fitness issues.

In attack, Yoane Wissa will miss the match despite returning to training, as he is rumored to be leaving for Newcastle United.

Predicted Lineups

Sunderland (4-3-3): Roefs; Mukiele, Seelt, Alderete, Reinildo; Diarra, Xhaka, Sadiki; Talbi, Mayenda, Adingra

Brentford (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Kayode, Collins, Van den Berg, Lewis-Potter; Henderson, Yarmolyuk; Ouattara, Damsgaard, Schade; Thiago

Score Prediction

Brentford is in great form and has an excellent record against promoted teams. The absence of Ballard could severely impact Sunderland, who will miss a key player in both penalty areas. Final score prediction: Sunderland 1 – Brentford 2.
