Harry Maguire has been making a strong comeback under Michael Carrick, playing in ten matches since the caretaker manager took charge at Manchester United.

The defender joined Old Trafford in 2019 from Leicester City and has played twenty times this season, mostly in the Premier League.

With an average rating of 6.94 on FotMob, along with one goal and one assist, the 33-year-old has solidified his place in the team while Matthijs de Ligt is recovering from injury, as the club seeks to bring the Netherlands international back soon.

These performances, coupled with his past experience with England, have led to his selection for the national team by Thomas Tuchel ahead of upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.

However, his achievements were overshadowed on Friday when he received a red card against Bournemouth for a foul on Evanilson.

The Premier League has released an official statement regarding the incident.

On their match centre account on X, they stated: “The referee’s decision to award a penalty and a red card to Maguire for the denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity (DOGSO) was checked and confirmed by VAR – it was deemed a holding offence with no attempt to play the ball.”

As a result, Harry Maguire will miss one match, which will be against Leeds United on Monday, April 13th.

In the meantime, he will join the England squad and may participate in one or both of their upcoming matches.

Playing in these matches could help him maintain his fitness and shift focus away from the red card towards more positive developments.
