Premier League Team of the Week: Featuring Alderete, Garner, and Trossard

After midweek Premier League matches, here’s our Team of the Week.

Goalkeeper: Nick Pope – Newcastle

Pope has reclaimed the starting spot from Aaron Ramsdale. Back from injury, he made impressive saves against his old team, Burnley, helping Newcastle secure an important away win.

Right-back: James Justin – Leeds United

Justin played well in a strong Leeds team, maintaining their unbeaten streak with a draw at Liverpool. He effectively marked Florian Wirtz, winning eight defensive duels and making six clearances, earning him the man of the match title.

Centre-back: James Tarkowski – Everton

Tarkowski was crucial in Everton’s solid defense, contributing to their second consecutive clean sheet in a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest. He made 13 clearances and won all his ground duels, proving himself a reliable defender.

Centre-back: Omar Alderete – Sunderland

Sunderland’s signing of Alderete for £10 million has proven to be a smart move. He performed excellently against Manchester City, making 11 clearances in a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light, living up to expectations set by his former club Getafe.

Centre-back: Gabriel Magalhaes – Arsenal

Left-back: Gabriel Gudmundsson – Leeds

Gudmundsson showcased his stamina against Jeremie Frimpong, improving as the match against Liverpool progressed. He played a key role in relieving pressure on the team with his ability to move the ball forward.

Midfield: James Garner – Everton

Everton needs to address Garner’s contract situation as it expires this summer, although they have a one-year extension option. Garner had an impressive game against Nottingham Forest, scoring a goal and assisting another.

Midfield: Bruno Guimaraes – Newcastle

Guimaraes played a crucial role in Newcastle’s victory at Burnley, showcasing his midfield prowess. He scored and helped secure the three points, especially with Joelinton and Sando Tonali back in the lineup.

Midfield: Martin Odegaard – Arsenal

Forward: Jarrod Bowen – West Ham
