The Premier League has seen its share of struggling teams over the years, with some presenting poor performances and achieving very few wins. This season, Wolves appear to be one of the worst yet.

Wolves currently sit at the bottom of the league table, having earned just two points from their first 11 matches, without a single victory and conceding 25 goals.

Their performance on the field has been disappointing, making it hard to believe they can salvage their season. This decline isn’t surprising, as they’ve sold key players over the last few summers without finding suitable replacements.

At this rate, it seems likely that Wolves will be remembered among the Premier League’s worst teams ever.

Teams with the Lowest Points Totals in Premier League History:

Portsmouth (2009/10)

Points: 19 | Goal Difference: -32

Portsmouth finished the 2009/10 season with 19 points, impacted by a nine-point deduction for going into financial administration. Even without this penalty, they would have still ended up at the bottom with only seven wins.

Despite their relegation, Portsmouth had a decent FA Cup run, reaching the final where they lost to Chelsea.

Sunderland (2002/03)

Points: 19 | Goal Difference: -44

This was not even Sunderland’s worst season. After sacking Peter Reid, the search for a new manager led to Howard Wilkinson, who was replaced by Mick McCarthy. Sunderland secured only two league wins and made headlines with a record 15 consecutive defeats.

Aston Villa (2015/16)

Points: 17 | Goal Difference: -49

Tim Sherwood was only able to secure one win before being replaced by Remi Garde, who managed to double that tally. Financial mismanagement plagued the club, contributing to their struggles.

The season was marked by a controversial tweet from Joleon Lescott that followed a heavy loss to Liverpool.

Huddersfield Town (2018/19)

After two successful seasons, Huddersfield’s downward spiral began the following season. They didn’t win until November and made a managerial change after their struggles continued.

Despite their difficulties, they avoided being the first team not to score ten or more away goals with a surprising draw against Manchester United. One memorable moment was when a reporter mistakenly approached the wrong person, thinking he was the new coach.

Sheffield United (2023/24)

Points: 16 | Goal Difference: -69

After being promoted, Sheffield United’s 2023/24 season turned disastrous, leading to their sacking of Paul Heckingbottom after just one win in 14 games. They ended up conceding 104 goals, setting a Premier League record.

Sunderland (2005-06)

Points: 15 | Goal Difference: -43

The 2005-06 Sunderland team extended their record losing streak to 20 games at the season’s start. They achieved only one win and were relegated after reaching an all-time low in points.

Southampton (2024/25)

Points: 12 | Goal Difference: -60

Russell Martin’s approach at Southampton backfired, resulting in the team struggling to execute basic plays. Following 16 games, he was dismissed, and the situation worsened under Ivan Juric as they became the first team to lose 30 games in a single season.

Derby County (2007-08)

Points: 11 | Goal Difference: -69

Derby County’s 2007-08 season is often cited as one of the worst in Premier League history. They set multiple undesirable records, including the lowest points total and most games without a win. Their only victory came against Newcastle, making the season unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.
