Tottenham has signed Netherlands midfielder Xavi Simons from Leipzig, making up for their recent failure to secure Eberechi Eze. Simons, who gained recognition as a standout player during last year’s European Championship, was acquired for €60 million ($70 million), as reported by British media.

In a statement, Simons stated, “I will bring flair to the team but also hard work and discipline.” He joined Leipzig permanently in January after a loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

Tottenham had been in negotiations with Eze, but he chose to sign with local rivals Arsenal instead. The club has been actively seeking an attacking midfielder this summer, especially with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski out due to injuries. Spurs confirmed that Simons’ contract is long-term.

Last season, Simons scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in 25 Bundesliga matches, despite being sidelined for about two months due to injury. However, he struggled during a tough Champions League season where Leipzig lost seven of their eight matches.
