Meanwhile, Leganes are struggling in the relegation zone, sitting in 18th place on the same points as 17th-placed Alaves.

Match preview

Real Madrid have collected 60 points from 28 matches, with a record of 18 wins, six draws and four defeats.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side go into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Villarreal before the international break, in which Kylian Mbappe scored twice.

Although they have not always been dominant throughout the season, Real Madrid still have the chance to win three titles.

Los Blancos face Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals and Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

Their home form is also very strong, with 34 points from 13 games at the Bernabeu, the best record in La Liga this season.

On the other hand, Leganes have struggled on the road this season. They have taken just 10 points from 14 away games.

However, Borja Jimenez’s side have pulled off a few surprises, including a 1-0 win over Barcelona before the winter break.

Leganes have also played Real Madrid twice this season. They lost 3-0 in their first meeting in La Liga and were beaten 3-2 in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Statistics and Head to Head

The head-to-head history is not in Leganes’ favour. In nine La Liga meetings with Real Madrid, they have never won.

The two draws have come at home. The last time the two teams met at the Bernabeu in La Liga was in October 2019, with Madrid winning 5-0.

Although Real Madrid have the advantage in terms of quality of squad and head-to-head record, Leganes will be physically fresher with most of their players having been rested for international duty.

The state of both teams Real Madrid are still missing a number of players through injury. Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao are long-term absentees, although both are expected to return before the end of the season.

Ferland Mendy, Dani Ceballos and Jesus Vallejo are also out for the game.

However, Ancelotti has no new injury concerns over the international break, with key players Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham all available.

Vinicius and Antonio Rudiger return to the starting line-up after coming on as substitutes against Villarreal.

At the back, Fran Garcia is likely to stay at left-back in place of Mendy.

Meanwhile, Leganes will be without Enric Franquesa due to a knee injury, while Diego Garcia and Yvan Neyou remain doubts for the game.

Striker Dani Raba, who scored twice against Real Betis, is expected to return to the starting line-up.

Juan Cruz, who scored twice against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, will also be a mainstay on the wing.

Real Madrid vs. Leganes Probable line-up

Real Madrid (4-3-3): Courtois; Asencio, Vazquez, Rudiger, F Garcia; Tchouameni, Valverde, Bellingham; Rodrygo, Mbappe, Vinicius.

Leganes (4-2-3-1): Dmitrovic; Gonzalez, Rosier, Nastasic, J Hernandez; Rodriguez, Cruz, Tapia, Cisse, Brasanac; Raba.

Score Prediction:

Leganes have the potential to put up a stiff resistance, especially with their better physical condition compared to Real Madrid’s players who have just returned from international duty.

However, Los Blancos’ individual quality and impressive home record make them favourites to win.

While games after the international break are often difficult to predict, it is hard to imagine a scenario where Real Madrid do not take all three points.

A convincing win is likely to be the end result of this game.

Score Prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 Leganes
