Colombia is currently training in Barranquilla for Thursday’s World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, a match that could secure their spot in the 2026 tournament. According to Antena 2, a key highlight is the unexpected return of Dayro Moreno, who rejoins the national team at 39 after nearly ten years away.

Moreno comes in strong, being the top scorer of the Copa Sudamericana with eight goals, which impressed the coaching team and led to his recall. His inclusion has been welcomed by fans and has received praise from teammates.

Juan Fernando Quintero expressed his excitement about playing alongside Moreno again. “Happy for his call-up. He brings the energy we need,” he stated. Quintero highlighted Moreno’s leadership and goal-scoring ability, suggesting that he might start against Bolivia.

All attention is now on the crucial qualifier. Quintero called it Colombia’s most significant match of this campaign, as it could determine their World Cup chances. Although the team could still qualify even with a loss, he emphasized not being complacent. “It won’t be an easy game. We don’t know Bolivia’s intentions,” he warned.

Quintero also noted the difficulty of South America’s qualifiers, stating they are the toughest in the world. This challenge explains why Colombia hasn’t secured its place yet, despite the increased number of spots available. In this context, Moreno’s return is seen as a morale boost for a team keen on winning their ticket to the tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
