Independiente is starting a new chapter this Monday with Gustavo Quinteros as their coach, as reported by Doble Amarilla. Quinteros, who has significant experience in South America, is stepping in at a challenging time for the team. They are currently at the bottom of their group in the Torneo Apertura and have already been eliminated from both the Copa Argentina and Copa Sudamericana. The team is trying to regain the form that took them to the semifinals of the Apertura 2025 earlier this year.

The experienced 59-year-old coach quickly accepted the offer after Julio Vaccari resigned following a loss to Banfield. Quinteros was officially introduced on Friday and was present at the weekend’s match against San Lorenzo at the Libertadores de América – Ricardo Enrique Bochini stadium, where interim coaches Carlos Matheu and Eduardo Tuzzio led the team. His first match will be a high-pressure clásico against Racing at the Cilindro de Avellaneda.

The situation is tense. After showing promise earlier in the season, Independiente has struggled, failing to win in the current tournament and exiting international competitions amid some controversies. There is growing pressure from fans and management for the team to bounce back. Quinteros’ hiring aims to stabilize the squad, rebuild confidence, and improve results quickly.

With experience coaching national teams in Bolivia and Ecuador, along with clubs in Argentina, Chile, and Brazil, Quinteros now faces a significant challenge in his career. The upcoming clásico against Racing will be crucial, serving as a test to see if he can guide a struggling Independiente onto a better path in Avellaneda.
