Rangers and Motherwell will face off at Ibrox on Saturday, with Motherwell looking to build on their strong season.
The teams are just one point apart in the Scottish Premiership and will be aiming for crucial wins during the busy festive schedule.
Rangers head coach Danny Rohl is dealing with several injury issues ahead of the weekend match. Forward Oliver Antman has missed the last five games due to a muscle injury but is making progress and could return soon. Midfielder Nedim Bajrami is also out with a muscle injury, though Rohl is hopeful Bajrami can come back within days.
Defender Derek Cornelius faces a longer recovery, potentially sidelining him until February 2026. However, there’s positive news for John Souttar, who has returned to partial training, though it’s unclear if he will be selected right away.
Midfielder Nasser Djiga is currently competing in Morocco for Burkina Faso at the Africa Cup of Nations and is unavailable. Bailey Rice and Rabbi Matondo are also expected to be out until early January.
Motherwell has its own injury concerns, with several key players missing for the trip to Glasgow. Attacker Tawanda Maswanhise, a top performer with eight league goals, is representing Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations and will be unavailable for weeks. This loss is significant due to his strong form.
Jordan McGhee has not played this season due to a thigh injury and is still out. Sam Nicholson has been unable to play since February due to a knee injury. Goalkeeper Aston Oxborough is out with a hand injury, and forward Zach Robinson is also unavailable. Eseosa Sule and Filip Stuparevic are sidelined as well with injuries.
Rangers are currently in fourth place in the Scottish Premiership, with 29 points from 17 matches. They are just behind Motherwell in the standings with a game in hand. Rangers faced a setback last week, losing 2-1 to Hearts, with Youssef Chermiti scoring a late goal that wasn’t enough to change the outcome.
Motherwell is making a strong push for the top four, currently holding third place with 30 points from 18 matches. They are unbeaten in their last eight league games and have shown strong defensive performance. Recently, Motherwell won 1-0 against Dundee FC, with Callum Slattery scoring late to keep the run going.
