The Colorado Rapids signed midfielder Hamzat Ojediran from France’s Ligue 1 club RC Lens on Thursday.

The 22-year-old Nigerian international is contracted until 2028-29, with options for 2029-30 and 2030-31.

Ojediran will take up an international roster spot for the Rapids, who begin their season on February 22 against Seattle.

Rapids coach Matt Wells described Ojediran as a valuable addition to the team, highlighting his strong mentality, technical skills, and physical attributes that are crucial for high-level competition. He noted that Ojediran’s ability to disrupt plays and stop counter-attacks will enhance the team’s style of play.

During his time with RC Lens, Ojediran played for two seasons in the French top league, scoring once in 17 matches.

Rapids president Padraig Smith expressed enthusiasm about Ojediran joining the team, emphasizing his impressive physical presence, defensive skills, and dynamic style that fit well with the coach’s system. He noted that Ojediran is eager to develop further and help the team succeed.

Ojediran started his professional career in Albania and also had a loan spell in Hungary before transferring to RC Lens.
