Napoli’s return to the top of Italian football over the past season is partly due to Manchester United. After Antonio Conte revamped the team with a more dynamic approach, Napoli secured last season’s Serie A title, aided by a key player known to United fans.

Scott McTominay had a successful first year in Naples, helping the team capture the Scudetto while making an impact well beyond standout moments.

The Scotland international contributed important goals from midfield, including one in the crucial victory against Cagliari that sealed the championship.

Finishing the league with 13 goals and six assists in 36 matches, he earned Serie A’s MVP award and was named Player of the Year for his impressive debut.

This title win also set the stage for Rasmus Hojlund’s arrival in Italy. Manchester United confirmed his season-long loan to the champions in late August, providing him a familiar league setting and a clear role in Conte’s forward lineup.

Now, Hojlund has his first trophy with Napoli. The team won the Supercoppa Italiana final against Bologna 2-0 on Monday night in Riyadh, with David Neres scoring both goals.

Neres opened the scoring with a curling shot from outside the box before halftime, then added a second goal early in the second half following a Bologna error, allowing Napoli to dominate the match.

This marks Napoli’s third Supercoppa title and their first since 2014. They reached the final after defeating AC Milan 2-0 in the semifinals, while Bologna advanced by beating Inter on penalties.

For Hojlund, this may represent the beginning of a new chapter, as he has indicated a desire to stay with Napoli beyond this season.
