Talented young defender, Raúl Asencio, is reportedly set to extend his service at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu after reaching a new contract agreement with Real Madrid until 2029. A report from Spanish sports daily MARCA stated that the contract extension is a form of appreciation for Asencio’s contribution to the first team. Especially when the club is experiencing an injury crisis involving Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, and David Alaba.
The 22-year-old originally had a contract that ran until 2026. With this extension, his salary has increased significantly. According to reports, Asencio will now receive a salary of €120,000 per week (around 130,000 USD) and that figure could increase to €175,000 per week (189,000 USD) in the final season of his contract in 2028/2029.
As part of his new contract, his release clause, which was previously set at €50 million (USD53.95 million), has also been significantly increased. Aside from his salary and bonuses in Madrid, Asencio has also signed a sponsorship deal with Skechers reportedly worth €500,000 (USD540,000). If he continues to show good performances at club and international level, more commercial deals are likely to follow.
Asencio’s journey to the Real Madrid first team has been a whirlwind. He was part of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States and made his debut in an exhibition match against Chelsea. However, after the tour, he returned to Real Madrid Castilla before being called up to the first team for his competitive debut against Osasuna. In that match, he immediately provided an assist with a long ball that resulted in a goal for Jude Bellingham.
Since then, Asencio has become a mainstay in the back line alongside Antonio Rudiger, appearing in important matches such as the Champions League against Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.
Asencio’s popularity has been growing following his impressive performances in Madrid. He even earned a call-up to the Spanish national team for the UEFA Nations League match against the Netherlands. However, coach Luis de la Fuente has yet to give him a chance to make his debut with La Roja.

However, amid Asencio’s rising stardom, he has also been embroiled in controversy. The youngster is still under investigation for allegedly distributing an explicit video involving a minor. In February, ESPN reported that a Spanish court rejected his appeal to end the investigation, leaving his status as a suspect intact.
The case has received widespread attention, both in Spain and internationally. Madrid’s rivals have often used it as a source of criticism of the club and Asencio. In response to the issue, Asencio finally spoke out in an interview with Relevo in March.
“I think everyone knows what they are doing. In this case, I am very calm. So, I take it day by day. In the end, it is just a matter of time,” he said.
He also acknowledged that there was greater pressure on the pitch due to this situation.
“I feel the pressure on the pitch has changed. That’s normal, isn’t it? With the change in category. But I’m motivated by that pressure. I’ve been used to the pressure in Madrid since I was little. That just makes me even more excited,” Asencio added.
With this new contract, Raúl Asencio looks set to continue to be part of Real Madrid’s long-term project. Will he be able to continue to develop and become one of the best defenders in Europe, or will he stumble over the controversies that accompany him?
