Recently, Jérôme Rothen expressed strong opinions about Rayan Cherki’s performance, questioning his commitment to the France national team. Rothen criticized Cherki’s fancy moves during a match, saying, “After missing so many opportunities and slowing down the game, trying tricks like the scarf is unacceptable. How can he act this way after just three caps? If no one is telling him, I will.” Rothen’s words quickly circulated online.
Against Ukraine, the former Olympique Lyonnais star did not impress many viewers. While some found Rothen’s criticisms harsh, others believed Cherki struggled once more, displaying determination but also inconsistency in his play. In an interview with Téléfoot, Cherki addressed the feedback he received.
Cherki discussed perceptions of his attitude, stating, “I’ve often been labeled as a difficult player to coach, but that’s not true. I’ve never had issues with my coaches. I’m someone who enjoys having fun and wants to entertain our fans.” He defended himself, emphasizing his straightforward nature.
“It’s simple: when I’m on the field, I aim to perform my role. Sometimes it’s tough, but I know I can do better. I’m not satisfied with my last performance,” he added, acknowledging the need to improve ahead of the upcoming match against Azerbaijan at 1:30 PM IST. This match is likely to draw attention from Manchester City, where they have been pleased with Cherki’s recent form.
