Reports from Brazil say that the 1-1 draw between Flamengo and Vasco at the Maracanã showcased Rayan as the standout performer. The 19-year-old forward scored the equalizer and was key to Vasco’s attack against Flamengo’s strong pressing. His speed and movement created space in the first half, and by the end, he became the main attacker after striker Vegetti was substituted due to fatigue.
“I’ve never run so much in my life during a match, so I just thank God for the goal,” Rayan said after scoring with a header over Carrascal, who had earlier put Flamengo ahead with his first-ever goal for the club.
Coach Fernando Diniz praised the young player, noting that his market value has significantly increased since the last transfer window. “Today, he’s likely worth more than triple what was discussed then. Rayan has a great ability to influence the game, one of the best in the country, and he’s just 19. He’s only beginning to realize his potential,” the coach stated.
Diniz also mentioned Philippe Coutinho’s role, observing that his impact lessened in the second half as the game became more physical. Coutinho had assisted with the corner for Vasco’s goal but had fewer chances in open play.
Rayan’s hard work came with a drawback: he received a booking for dissent and, having reached the yellow-card limit, will miss Wednesday’s match against Bahia at São Januário. Forward Nuno Moreira is uncertain due to muscle discomfort, while left-back Lucas Piton will be reassessed to see if he can return to the team.
