Our Power Rankings are updated, with PSG and Real Madrid dropping down.
📈 Power Rankings: Real Madrid Falls, Bayern Returns to Top
10. Paris Saint-Germain ⬇️ (last week: 6)
Could Paris Saint-Germain really drop from the Power Rankings?
They were dominant in the latter part of last season, culminating in a quadruple. While PSG is still competing for titles this year, their weaknesses are becoming clearer. Their French Cup title defense ended with a 1-0 loss to Paris FC at home on Monday.
This defeat is one they cannot afford if they wish to retain their other titles.
9. Real Madrid ⬇️ (last week: 4)
Football can change quickly. Just last week, we discussed how Xabi Alonso relieved some pressure at Real Madrid.
Now, Alonso has left after a defeat in the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona, and his replacement’s debut was rocky. Alvaro Arbeloa stepped in as interim coach but faced a tough start, losing to Albacete and knocking the team out of the Copa del Rey.
8. Juventus ⬆️ (last week: 10)
Juventus is gaining momentum and eyeing the top of Serie A.
They have won five of their last six league matches, including a 5-0 victory over Cremonese earlier this week.
Next up is Cagliari, followed by a crucial match against Napoli later this month.
7. Porto ⬆️ (last week: 9)
Porto is pursuing a treble this season, having reached the Taça de Portugal semi-finals after defeating Benfica. Jan Bednarek scored the deciding goal in a key match.
With a seven-point lead over defending champions Sporting Lisbon in the Primeira Liga and potential progress in the Europa League, the outlook is bright for Porto.
6. Aston Villa ⬆️ (last week: 7)
Aston Villa is also looking for trophies, but they have a longer title drought.
They advanced in the FA Cup by defeating Tottenham Hotspur, thanks to first-half goals from Emi Buendia and Morgan Rogers. Are they on track to win their first trophy since 1996 this season?
Manchester City had a strong week, with a standout debut from Antoine Semenyo. He scored and assisted in their 10-1 FA Cup win over Exeter City.
City also secured a 1-0 victory against Newcastle, giving them a first-leg lead in the League Cup semi-final.
4. Lens ⬆️ (last week: 5)
Lens, after losing key players following a second-place finish last season, is now soaring again. They have won nine consecutive games and recently defeated Sochaux 3-0 in the French Cup.
Confidence is high.
3. Barcelona ⬇️ (last week: 2)
Barcelona has had a strong run, winning ten straight matches.
They secured the first trophy of the Spanish season with a 3-2 victory over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.
2. Arsenal ⬇️ (last week: 1)
Arsenal drops a spot but remains in contention for multiple titles. They won in both the FA Cup and League Cup this week.
Gabriel Martinelli’s hat-trick led them to a comeback win against Portsmouth, and they took a first-leg lead against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.
1. Bayern Munich ⬆️ (last week: 3)
Bayern Munich bounces back after a quieter week. They dominated Wolfsburg with an 8-1 victory and continued their strong form with a 3-1 win over Köln.
