Real Madrid vs. FC Barcelona: Projected Lineups for the Upcoming Clash

Today is the big day! The first Clasico of the season kicks off at 4:15 PM IST at the Santiago Bernabéu. It’s hard to pick a favorite for this match, as both teams have struggled to reassure their supporters in recent weeks. On one side, Real Madrid, despite having satisfactory results, has not fully convinced everyone with Xabi Alonso’s style. On the other hand, Hansi Flick’s team appears to be more vulnerable compared to last season, showing significant weaknesses in their defensive sequences.

What’s certain is that Real Madrid will seek revenge for last season’s Clasicos, which were convincingly won by Lamine Yamal’s side. Yamal has increased the tensions lately with his comments on officiating during the Kings League broadcast, making him a player closely watched by the Madrid defenders.

Key Absences

For this match, Xabi Alonso is expected to field a fairly traditional lineup, with one concern being the right-back position. Carvajal is doubtful due to injury, and Trent Alexander-Arnold has not recovered. This means Fede Valverde may need to step in alongside Carreras, Huijsen, and Militao in front of Courtois. The midfield should feature Tchouameni, Camavinga, Bellingham, and Arda Güler, with the Turkish player possibly shifting to the right. Unsurprisingly, Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappé will lead the attack.

Meanwhile, Hansi Flick faces a bigger challenge, particularly with the goalkeeper position. Szczesny will replace the starting keeper Joan Garcia. In front of him, a defensive line of Balde, Eric Garcia, Cubarsi, and Koundé is anticipated. The midfield trio of De Jong, Pedri, and Fermin Lopez is expected to provide support for an offensive unit missing Raphinha and Lewandowski. Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres are likely to team up with Lamine Yamal at the front.
