Match week 36 of the 2024/2025 LaLiga season sees Real Madrid face Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday (15/5) at 01:00 IST. This is a golden opportunity for Los Blancos to bounce back from the painful defeat at the hands of Barcelona, which diminished their chances of winning a trophy this season.
Real Madrid, one of the most successful clubs in the history of football, are on the brink of a disappointing season. Under Carlo Ancelotti, Los Blancos are in danger of ending the season without a trophy after narrowly losing to Barcelona in the decisive El Clasico.
The match against Mallorca is Madrid’s last chance to keep their hopes of winning La Liga alive, however slim they may be. Ancelotti, who will leave his post at Real Madrid at the end of May, must lead his side to victory in their remaining three games to keep their hopes alive.
The match against Mallorca could be a turning point or it could deepen Madrid’s wounds this season. Despite losing to Barcelona, Real Madrid’s performance showed a great deal of determination. A sensational hat-trick from Kylian Mbappe almost brought them back from the brink, but they were unable to find the equaliser.
Real Madrid will be determined not to make the same mistakes against Mallorca and will be sure to go all out. Mallorca have come to the Santiago Bernabeu not just as cheerleaders.
They currently sit in ninth place in La Liga and are in with a good chance of qualifying for next season’s European competition. Nicknamed ‘The Vermillions’, they are still in with a chance of securing a place in the Conference or even the Europa League if they can win their remaining games.
Mallorca ace Sergi Darder will be a key figure in midfield. The former Espanyol and Lyon man has been consistent since joining in 2023, making 69 appearances and scoring three goals. His presence in midfield will be crucial in controlling the tempo of the game and holding off attacks from Real Madrid’s attack.
Of the previous 74 meetings, Real Madrid are dominant with 45 wins, while Mallorca have won 16, and 13 matches ended in draws.
Real Madrid (4-3-3) : Courtois (GK); Vazquez, Tchouameni, Asencio, Garcia; Ceballos, Valverde; Guler, Bellingham, Rodrygo; Mbappe
Mallorca (4-2-3-1) : Greif (GK); Maffeo, Valjent, Raillo, Mojica; Mascarell, Costa; Asano, Rodriguez, Darder; Muriqi
Playing at home, Real Madrid are favourites to win. Although Mallorca have been solid this season, Madrid’s desire to avoid a trophyless season will be a big boost for Ancelotti’s men to perform at their best.
Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham are expected to secure three vital points at the Santiago Bernabeu.
