Kannur: Foreign players for the second season of Kannur Warriors Football Club were greeted upon their arrival at the airport by the fan group, Red Mariners. The first player to land was striker Abdou Karim Samb from Senegal. He arrived at Kannur International Airport at 8:20 PM on Saturday and was received by Team Manager Alfin, who presented him with the team’s pennant. Following this, two supporters placed a team scarf on the player. About 20 fans had gathered at the airport, welcoming him with a banner, applause, and loud chants.
On Sunday at 2:30 AM, midfielder Nidhal from Tunisia landed at Kozhikode Airport and travelled to Kannur by road. Later in the evening, at 5:45 PM, Spanish players Asier and Adrian arrived at Kannur Airport. Many fans were present to welcome them, as both were standout performers for the team in the first season. All four players will begin training with the team starting Monday.
The head coach and two more foreign players are expected to join the squad soon. The team’s training sessions will take place at the Kannur Police Parade Ground. All the Indian players have already joined the camp.
Who are the Red Mariners
The Red Mariners is the active supporters’ group for Kannur Warriors Football Club. The group was established in 2024, alongside the formation of the club itself. They have an active supporter base both inside and outside Kerala. Besides cheering for the team at stadiums, the group also participates in various social service activities. In the previous season, when Kozhikode was the team’s home ground, the Red Mariners travelled there from Kannur to support the team.
