The Red Star continues its impressive start to the season. Initially not expected to compete for top positions, Grégory Poirier’s team now sits second in Ligue 2, and their position is well-deserved. Just three days after losing to Dunkerque (3-0), they rebounded with a 2-0 victory against ASSE.
Damien Durand was the star for the Francilians, scoring twice in the first 30 minutes. The former schoolteacher was initially assisted by Khaoui in the very first minute, taking advantage of a defensive error from the Stéphanons. He then netted his second from a Dembo Sylla pass in the 31st minute. Khaoui was denied a penalty by Larsonneur, while Davitashvili scored a low free-kick just below the wall in the 72nd minute, marking the only time Poussin was beaten. In the standings, Red Star is chasing the leader Troyes, while ASSE holds third place.
