The FIFA World Cup qualifier between DR Congo and Jamaica in Guadalajara, Mexico, took an unexpected turn during extra time when referee Facundo Tello had to leave the game due to injury.
With DR Congo leading 1-0 in the 111th minute, the Argentine referee showed signs of pain, grabbing his calf and knee before collapsing. Medical staff quickly came to help, causing a brief pause in the match.
After a few minutes of treatment, Tello was unable to continue and exited the field. The fourth official, Dario Herrera, took over to ensure the game resumed smoothly.
Despite the interruption, DR Congo kept their focus and held onto their lead until the end, winning 1-0 against Jamaica.
This victory secures DR Congo’s place in the FIFA World Cup, where they will compete in Group K with Portugal, Uzbekistan, and Colombia.
