Rio Ferdinand has joined the discussion about Neymar’s role in Brazil’s World Cup squad.
The former England defender, known as one of the top center-backs in his time, has become a well-respected pundit since his retirement.
His comments come as speculation grows about Neymar’s chances of making the 2026 team.
The Brazilian star was not included in the latest call-up, which is the final one before the squad announcement on May 16.

Ferdinand shared his views in a video on X, supporting Neymar’s return.
He noted that the World Cup is the perfect setting for stars like Neymar, who can turn a game around in an instant.
The former Manchester United player said: “Neymar hasn’t made the recent squad, and I can’t believe it. I saw him on social media saying he will keep working in hopes of being included.”
“As a football fan, I hope Neymar plays in the World Cup because it’s about witnessing great moments. Neymar has the ability to create those moments. Please, Carlo, bring Neymar back.”
His comments add to the pressure on Ancelotti as he faces an important decision, though the Italian coach seems untroubled by such remarks.
Brazil’s Loss to France Sparks Neymar Conversation
Brazil’s 2-1 defeat against France last Thursday has renewed the debate.
The friendly match at Gillette Stadium in the U.S. highlighted problems in their attack.
Vinicius Jr. and Raphinha, Brazil’s top players at the moment, struggled to make an impact during the game.
Their lackluster performance shifted attention back to Neymar’s absence.
With the World Cup nearing, questions arise about whether Brazil can afford to exclude one of their most skilled and experienced players.
