On the Inside Carrington podcast, Rio Ferdinand shared his thoughts on which current Manchester United player he would have liked to play alongside.
Ferdinand chose Bruno Fernandes, who many believe is the club’s top signing since Sir Alex Ferguson left.
Since joining in 2020, Bruno Fernandes has made a significant impact at Old Trafford and remains a key player. At 31, the Portuguese midfielder plays a central role in Manchester United’s strategies.
Ferdinand feels that Fernandes embodies three essential qualities outlined by Ryan Giggs for a United player.
“A player I think could have played in our team would be Bruno,” he stated.
“Giggsy pointed out that there are three things needed to be a United player: you must run, take risks, and have imagination. That describes Bruno perfectly.”
What Makes Bruno Fernandes Stand Out at Manchester United
In his time with Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes has won both the FA Cup and League Cup, and Erik ten Hag appointed him captain.
Despite speculation about moving away from Old Trafford last summer, Fernandes chose to remain, rejecting an offer from Al Hilal to continue leading the team.
This season, his role has shifted slightly as Ruben Amorim has been positioning him deeper in midfield, impacting his statistics somewhat.
However, despite these adjustments, Fernandes continues to be crucial for United this season. Ferdinand emphasized the influence he has had since joining the club.
“His numbers are impressive. No one has created more chances than him since arriving in the Premier League,” Ferdinand said. “He has the talent and the right mindset for our team.”
Fernandes currently remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2027, with five goals and seven assists across 17 appearances in all competitions this season.
